Fit Body and Mind by NATURE

Nature Fitness Programming and Consulting

Utilizing the outdoors as your own personal gym is a great way to cross train. The abundance of natural objects, open space, and trails offers a variety of challenges that promote strength and endurance with minimal equipment needed. For example, lifting natural objects of varying sizes and weights is a great challenge because the offset loads help improve coordination, stability, and strengthen often neglected stabilizer muscles. The neutral and non-judgmental environment created by nature is also a great way to take care of your mental health. You’ll find it easier to stay positive, motivated, inspired and peaceful allowing you to be intuitive and mindful of your thoughts and movements while having fun.

Through this service, you will learn the concepts of functional fitness training and how you can incorporate nature into the process. I will also guide you in setting up your own outdoor gym along with providing outdoor workout programs for your individual goals.


Nature Fitness Walking with Strength and Stretching Exercises

This powerful combination is a great way to get in shape for all levels of fitness while reaping the benefits of endurance and strength conditioning. This low impact type of exercise does not require any equipment and is easily accessible. During our training sessions, I’ll teach you a variety of walking workouts that vary in speed, intensity, duration, and terrain, so you don’t have to do the same routine every time. We’ll also take the time to add body weight strength training followed by a yoga-based stretching routine for flexibility, recovery and relaxation.

This service can be done anywhere in the outdoors, especially on nature trails - similar to my Zen-trail running service, there is a strong mind-body connection that boosts your mental and emotional health. As you step out into the fresh air, there is a sense of freedom and a release of emotion and burden off your shoulders that will make you want to keep coming back for more.


Nature Walk and Talk to Wellness

This service incorporates walking and other movements in nature while having lively inspirational conversations about benefits of exercising and health topics as we break a light to moderate sweat. For example, during our conversations, you will learn the importance of gauging your perceived exertion level and the effect this has on your cardiovascular conditioning goals. Our conversation topics will focus on how exercising in nature will help build a resilient mindset and enhance your emotional ability to stay calm and present no matter what curveballs life throws your way.

Natural elements such as wind, rain, sun, the breeze, and wildlife can be utilized for symbolic inspiration or challenges compared to our own lives. Doing physical activity in nature highlights creativity, self understanding, and emotional awareness-it is relaxing and restorative. You will feel alive with less stress and anxiety as the nervous system begins the process of unwinding and healing, therefore transforming your mindset into one that is centered around maintaining a sustainable healthy lifestyle.


Trail Running for Beginners

This service is designed to motivate and inspire non-runners as well as road runners of all levels of experience who are bored with running on roads and would like to make the transition to the world of trail running. Making the switch from road running to trail running will open up a whole new world beyond paved surfaces, allowing you to reap the benefits of a body and mind connection while out in nature without any distractions.

At first, trail running can be intimidating to non-runners or runners who are accustomed to running on the road. However, it is my goal to coach you on how to get started successfully and work with you on enjoyable, safe, fun and stress-free trail running training strategies that will become a valuable part of your cross-training program. You’ll quickly learn that time flies when you’re running on trails and you’ll develop a meditative peace of mind and you will always feel empowered and inspired as you learn to navigate trails that keep changing from start to finish and from one season to another.

This service will cover everything you need to get started: Trail running techniques, etiquette, safety protocols, footwear, strength/balance training exercises, programing, proper dynamic warm-up and cool-down for injury prevention, recovery, relaxation, as well as tips and resources for finding trails near you.


Zen-Trail Running

The Zen approach to trail running will improve your overall performance by helping you develop a strong mind and body connection into your running. In trail running you will find steeper hills, more side-to-side movement, and obstacles to deal with such as tree roots, rocks, and uneven terrain. This is where trail running is so much fun because you forget about pace and instead focus on what feels good in that moment. You’ll stay present by connecting your breath to the rhythm of your foot strikes and the sound of nature. This form of moving meditation cultivates a mindful and resilient mindset that gets better as you practice. Whether you are an experienced runner or just starting, I can coach you in utilizing the technique of mindfulness and the basic principals of meditation to move your body in natural order while using efficient, safe, and intuitive running techniques that will bring more joy and awareness to your running.

This service will begin with 5 to 10 minutes of a mindful dynamic warm-up, followed by 30 to 50 minutes of trail running. We will end with 5 to 10 minutes of a Zen cool-down that includes a Yoga-inspired stretching routine to recover, heal, and relax.

Sports-Specific Yoga for Athletes

Yoga is an ancient system and a practical pathway for enhancing physical, mental, and emotional health. With that said, a sports-specific Yoga practice is the perfect cross training tool for athletes to enhance their performance and help prepare them for difficult and challenging situations in their sport. Athletes who excel and ride to the top are the ones who have a strong mind-body connection as well as relaxed and focused minds.

In this service, I approach program design with an understanding of the athletic training cycle - both on and off season - as well as the bio-mechanics of each sport, and the physical and mental challenges athletes face during training and competition.

Sports-Specific Yoga can be taught: one-on-one or in groups and can be catered to athletes of all backgrounds, including professional, masters, or casual athletes as well as weekend warriors.
